Two Penticton residents have been arrested and charged in connection to the death of an Abbotsford man.
On Feb. 23, 2016, the Abbotsford Police Department was called to a home on Center Street where they found a 63-year-old man deceased. Police believed the circumstances of the man’s death to be suspicious and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) were called in to help with the investigation.
The investigation has led police to 33-year-old Shayne Daniel McGenn and 33-year-old Sarah Margaret Sather both from Penticton. McGenn is facing a charge of second-degree murder and Sather is charged with accessory after the fact. According to police, the victim and suspects are known to each other. According to both Sather and McGenn's Facebook profiles, they are in a relationship.
“The scope of this investigation required the assistance of police units throughout the Lower Mainland. The ability of IHIT investigators to obtain assistance allowed this matter to be thoroughly investigated in a number of jurisdictions and with the help of police units in Abbotsford and in the Okanagan. Investigators now move into the disclosure stage of this investigation and can turn their attention to providing Crown Counsel with the information they need to move this matter through the court system,” said Sgt. Stephanie Ashton, Media Relations Officer for IHIT.
Both suspects have been remanded in custody and will appear in Abbotsford Provincial Court this week. The name of the victim has not been released.
