Severe thunderstorm watch issued for much of B.C.

Environment Canada is warning B.C. residents of conditions in multiple regions of the province they say are prime for thunderstorms that may mean strong wind gusts and heavy rain.

The areas of Fraser Canyon, Fraser Valley, Howe Sound, Nicola, Simikameen, Sunshine Coast and Whistler are all facing similar conditions.

Heavy downpours could cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

Environment Canada urges residents to take shelter indoors if you hear lightning.

Thunderstorm watches often mean storms that can bring with them large hail, damaging winds and torrential rainfall.

Monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada to stay up to date on weather in your area.
