Revelstoke Adventure Park gets approval

A proposed adventure park for Revelstoke has gotten the green light from the government.

The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations has approved a 30-year adventure tourism and commercial recreation tenure for the proposed park.

The tenure consists of a Licence of Occupation for around 257 hectares of Crown land 10 kilometres northeast of Revelstoke, as well as 64 hectares of connected private land.

The adventure park, which will be nine times the size of Disneyland, will feature a number of summer recreational activities.

That includes hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, horseback riding, zip-lining, bungee jumping, tree-top adventures, mountain coasters and sky swings.

“Outdoor recreation has always been a big part of Revelstoke,” said Minister Steve Thomson. “The proposed adventure park will add more outstanding outdoor recreation opportunities for residents and visitors in the region, as well as create local jobs.”

There will also be improvements to the Crown land, which include an access road up the steep terrain to access higher elevations, a day lodge, a heli-pad, gazebos and portable sanitation units.

There’s also plans to eventually add a gondola or chairlift.

“This adventure park is another example of rural entrepreneurship that has the ability to create economic sustainability in rural communities,” said Minister Donna Barnett.

Before approval, a number of studies were conducted on the Crown land to ensure existing wildlife habitats, terrain stability and drinking water would be protected.

Throughout the evaluation, there were also consultations done with the public, First Nations and partners of the project.

The project is being spearheaded by Illecillewaet Development Limited Partnership (IDLP).

“This epic park will excite adventure seekers, create jobs and bring visitors to town,” explained IDLP and Revelstoke Adventure Park COE, Jason Roe. “We are excited to break ground and begin phase one of this venture.”
