Ferry service in and out of the Langdale terminal on the Sunshine Coast has been halted after an incident this morning.
BC Ferries is dubbing it a “mechanical issue,” which occurred after the Queen of Surrey missed it’s intended berth and ended up crashing into the dock around 8:10 a.m..

“The vessel while making its turn towards the berth came into contact with the end of the marine lead and is currently held up,” said a statement from BC Ferries.
“The Seaspan Kestrel (a tugboat) has been arranged and is on route to the terminal to assist with dislodging the vessel.”
Plenty of people chimed in on Twitter with pictures of the crash and first-hand accounts of what was going on at the dock.
“The ferry is stuck on the dock. Not moving. I am on the ferry,” wrote Alan Kabatoff. “The captain said we will not move until the tugboats arrive. (The) ferry is not taking on water or leaking fluids.”
There’s been no reports of any injuries to passengers or crew, but BC Ferries has confirmed that the Queen of Surrey will not be sailing again today.
Options for travel between Horseshoe Bay and Langdale today include:
- Water taxi service for foot passengers will be in operation today between the government dock at Horseshoe Bay and Gibsons Landing and from the government dock at Horseshoe Bay and Hopkins Landing. Both are non-reservable and based on space availability
- Customers wanting to travel with their vehicles can travel via Earls Cove and Saltery Bay, Powell River and Comox, and Departure Bay and Horseshoe Bay or Duke Point and Tsawwassen
- Evening service between Horseshoe Bay and Langdale will be provided by the Queen of Cowichan with limited vehicle capacity as follows:
- 5:30 pm and 7:50 pm exit Horseshoe Bay
- 6:40 pm and 8:55 pm exit Langdale
