In an effort to promote physical distancing, BC Transit is about to implement a cap on the amount of people allowed on one bus.
It will start on Monday and it’s another added measure to keep public transit safe after BC Transit introduced rear-door loading last week.
Transit operators will be limiting the amount of passengers allowed on each bus and monitoring passengers to ensure they’re keeping the appropriate distance apart.
With ridership down about 50%-70%, passengers shouldn’t notice too much of a chance from what’s been seen in recent days.
“We do not anticipate pass-ups with this change based on current ridership statistics, and if there are pass-ups we will track the instances through our normal process and make adjustments are required,” said a statement from BC Transit.
“We ask customers to please leave plenty of time for their transit trip to allow for physical distancing, and thank our customers for their patience.”
BC Transit will continue to review service levels in communities across the province and make ongoing adjustments based on resource availability.
