BC conservation officers looking for grizzly bear with broken arrow stuck in head

The BC Conservation Officer Service is investigating after a grizzly bear was spotted with a broken arrow stuck in its head.

It was recently spotted by a passing motorist, who was able to snap a picture and provide it to the BCCOS.

According to the BCCOS, the bear was along Hwy 37 near Meziadin Lake, which is north of Smithers.

On the BCCOS post about the bear, a commenter chimed in to say they saw what was likely the same animal in that area while on a camping trip on May 31.

“The bear was grazing just off the side of the road and at that time the bear did not seem to be too concerned with our presence in the vehicle,” explained Wendy Banting. “However, we did not stick around for long.”

It is not known how the bear ended up with the arrow in its head and its condition is currently unknown as well.

Hunting grizzly bears has been banned in BC since 2017.

Anyone who has information about the bear is urged to call the RAPP hotline at 1-877-952-7277.
