A man in BC was sent to hospital yesterday after a large piece of ice crashed through the windshield of his truck while driving on a highway.
According to the BC RCMP, the man was driving on Highway 99 at the Massey Tunnel in Richmond at the time.
First responders received the call just before 2 pm. The man was in the vehicle alone at the time, and received non-life threatening injuries.
The driver, a 49-year-old man from Surrey, was taken to a local area hospital by BC Emergency Health Services.
One southbound lane was closed while emergency personnel attended to the driver and vehicle, but has since re-opened.
“We are continuing to investigate in an attempt to determine the source of the ice,” states S/Sgt. Janelle Shoihet of the BC RCMP.
“If you were a witness, or have dash-cam video of the collision, please contact the Lower Mainland Traffic Services at 604-526-9744 and cite file 2020-108 to report.”
