BC man loses control while ‘doing donuts,’ lodges vehicle into house

A driver ended up with his vehicle lodged into a home in BC after witnesses reported the car doing donuts prior to the collision.

Police in Nanaimo said the man’s reckless driving “ended abruptly” when he lost control and ran into the front of someone’s home at 10:15 pm on Saturday, near the intersection of Butcher Road and Kenwill Drive.

The vehicle came to a stop after striking and lodging itself in the foundation of the home. Fortunately, no one in the home nor the occupants of the vehicle were injured.

Several witnesses told police at the scene that the driver had been driving aggressively, driving in circles and “doing donuts” in the area.

The vehicle also reportedly lost control before the collision, and ended up driving across someone’s front lawn.

Police, Fire and BCEHS responded. When officers arrived, several neighbours and the homeowner were out on the street assessing the damage. The impact destroyed some brick work and a basement window.

Following the collision, two occupants of the vehicle were seen running away.

Police were able to track down the alleged driver, and about an hour later served a young adult man with several violation tickets under the Motor Vehicle Act for No Insurance, Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident and Drive without Due Care.

The vehicle was later towed away.

“This incident could have ended tragically and is a good reminder that there is no time or place for this type of driving on our streets, and that drivers will be held responsible for their actions,” said R/Cst Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.
