On Thursday, Henry Thomas pleaded guilty in North Vancouver court to one count of failing to provide the necessaries of life.
Alisia Adams with the BC Prosecution Service confirmed Thomas made the plea.
Thomas was charged earlier this year for the death of two-year-old Aleka Gonzales, who died on May 19, 2014.
Police say the girl was left in the care of Thomas the day before her death and was returned to her mother in North Vancouver that day — Gonzales was found dead the next morning.
An in-depth investigation was launched and in July of 2015, officers seized snakes and related equipment from Thomas’ home.
RCMP say further DNA work was done in the following years and in January they confirmed snake venom was the cause of the little girl’s death.
Thomas’ sentencing hearing has been scheduled for Oct. 3, 2019.
