A BC nurse has been disciplined for reportedly drinking on the job.
A consent agreement between the BC College of Nurses and Midwives and Adam Powell of Victoria was approved by an inquiry committee on Jan. 22.
The agreement addressed “practice issues” that happened from June to September 2022.
Along with consuming alcohol at the workplace, Powell also reportedly offered and encouraged subordinates and colleagues to drink alcohol he provided.
The agreement said this happened while Powell was in a position of authority.
In addition, he reportedly consumed alcohol while on duty in an administrative capacity that did not routinely include patient care.
The decision says Powell voluntarily agreed to a public reprimand and “intensive remedial education” in ethical practice, professional responsibility and accountability.
He also agreed to a regulatory practice consultation to address the unsatisfactory conduct identified in the agreement.
The agreement did not mention a suspension or any other disciplinary action.
The inquiry committee was satisfied that the agreement will protect the public.
