A BC teen with a learner’s license was busted doing more than double the speed limit this past weekend and issued violation tickets of more than $1,000.
On Friday, RCMP officers in North Vancouver were conducting traffic enforcement in a neighbourhood and nabbed the youth hitting 199 km/h.
The 19-year-old was driving in an area with an 80 km/h speed limit.
According to police, the youth was racing another vehicle when they stopped him and responded to the officers by saying: “The other driver was going faster.”
Unfortunately, the officers were not able to stop the other driver.
Not only was the youth driving without a supervisor, they were also carrying too many passengers in their vehicle.
Officers issued tickets for excessive speed, driving without due care and attention and driving contrary to restrictions.
The youth’s fine totalled nearly $1,500 and their vehicle was impounded for one week.
“Speed remains as the number one cause of death on our roadways,” said Cst. Mansoor Sahak.
“When it comes to speeding and dangerous driving, every death is a preventable death.
