BC vice-principal writes letter to Tooth Fairy after student loses tooth at school

Whether you see it or not, most early childhood educators are going above and beyond every day to shape the next generation.

There’s no better example of that than what a vice-principal from Prince George did earlier this week for a student who lost his tooth.

Young Gavin, a student at Hart Highlands Elementary School, lost his tooth while he was getting ready to eat lunch on Tuesday.

Unfortunately, the tooth was lost in the classroom and it was not found, despite what the school’s vice-principal, Shandee Whitehead, called “the heroic efforts of a fearless search team.”

As a result, Whitehead wrote a note on official school letterhead for Gavin to bring home with him and provide to the tooth fairy instead of his missing tooth.

“As a trained vice-principal and hobby dentist, I can verify that there is definitely a gap in Gavin’s teeth that was not there this morning when he came in,” she wrote.

“Please accept this letter as official verification of a lost tooth and provide the standard monetary exchange rate you normally use for a real tooth.”

She added the Tooth Fairy is welcome to contact her at the school if she has any questions or concerns.

It was a small gesture that clearly was important for Gavin and likely put a smile on his parents face as well.

Whitehead, who clearly has a sense of humour, also wrote a postscript at the end where she said she’s still waiting for money for her wisdom teeth from 2000.

“Please pay as soon as possible,” she wrote. “I have bills to pay.”
