Boy, 4, found after going missing for over 30 hours in dense northern BC forest

A four-year-old boy has been found safe after going missing for over 30 hours in thick woodland in northern BC.

George Hazard-Benoit became separated from his mother in the Lions Lake area of Mackenzie while she was picking berries with a friend.

BC Wildfire Service, Mackenzie firefighters, Mounties and volunteers all came together in the effort to find George.

“The search was a priority not only for police, first responders and SAR, but for the volunteers who dropped what they were doing and joined the search,” said Cpl Madonna Saunderson.

He was found on Sunday at about 6:43 pm by an RCMP helicopter.

The aircraft landed near George before flying him to hospital, where he was reunited with his parents.

Mounties said he was “a little dehydrated and hungry,” but otherwise in good health.
