Damaging winds headed for B.C. south coast

The Weather Network is forecasting damaging winds headed for the B.C. south coast later today and into Sunday morning.

The peak of the winds and most intense period of rainfall is expected to occur over Saturday night and into Sunday, with winds reaching more than 100 km/h.

Between 20 to 40 milimetres of rain is expected for the Lower Mainland, according to meteorologist, Nadine Hinds-Powell.

Power outages and ferry crossings are likely to occur.

Heavy snow is expected as well, making traveling difficult and somewhat dangerous through mountain passes.

Avalanche Canada has issued a high avalanche warning in the alpine and treeline of the South Coast. Travel is not recommended in these areas.

Reports of intense snowfall and windloading has impacted the conditions and is expected to stick around for the weekend.
