Barbara Don could not believe her eyes when she found out she had won the grand prize on a scratch and win ticket.
The Lantzville resident was at a Save-On-Foods on Island Hwy, buying her mother a lottery ticket for her birthday when she decided to pick up a ticket for herself.
What ended up being a quick trip to the store turned into a lucky win when she scratched the $100,000 jackpot.
“I scanned it on my phone and stared at the screen thinking this can’t be real,” Don recalled. “I was in disbelief. I thought I was reading the whole ticket wrong!”
Barbara's initial reaction was to break the news with her husband, who wasn't home at the time.“I called him and said, ‘You might want to come back!’”, said Don.
With the big win under her belt, she upgraded her mother's birthday gift to a celebratory dinner.
“I am happy to pick up the dinner tabs for my friends and family with this special win.”
She plans on sharing the wealth with her loved ones and putting some of it towards building her dream home.
