Mounties in the Fraser Valley are trying to track down two suspects who allegedly beat a pair of young adults with a baseball bat over a honk in a drive-thru.
The incident, which sent a 21-year-old woman and 20-year-old man to hospital with serious injuries, happened in Mission shortly after 10 am on Sunday, Sept. 8.
According to police, the victims were in the drive-thru of a Tim Hortons when they honked at the Chevrolet Malibu in front of them after it reportedly failed to move forward with the lineup.
The RCMP says the Malibu moved up and finished the order process, but they didn’t leave the area.
Instead, they allegedly waited for the victims to exit the drive-thru, drove up beside them and threw a cup of coffee at their vehicle.
And it didn’t stop there.
Police say the Malibu followed the victims’ vehicle as it drove away from the Tim Hortons, tracking them for two kilometres before coming to a stop at an intersection.
That’s when two occupants allegedly exited the Malibu and assaulted two young adults, leaving them with serious injuries that were showcased in a Facebook post that has since gone viral.
“This appears to have been an extreme case of road rage,” explained Cpl. Harrison Mohr. I’m sure we’ve all seen someone in a drive-thru lane give a little honk to let the person in front know they can move up. No one expects to be assaulted as a result of it.”
Cops later found the Malibu unoccupied and it was seized as part of the investigation.
The RCMP has now identified the male and female suspects, and are now releasing photos of them in hopes of finding them as soon as possible.
“The suspects are known to travel to different areas of BC, Alberta and other western provinces,” noted an RCMP release.
One suspect is described as a black male in his 30s, with a medium build and full beard, while the other is described as a white female in her 30s, with short blonde hair, a sleeve tattoo on her left arm and a tattoo on her right thigh.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed any part of the interaction between the two vehicles, or anyone who knows where these suspects are, to contact the Mission RCMP immediately at 604-826-7161.
