FortisBC customers asked to conserve natural gas in wake of pipeline explosion near PG

Fortis Inc. is advising the public of a potential loss of gas supply due to the recent explosion of Enbridge’s natural gas pipeline near Prince George.

The pipeline provides the supply of natural gas which FortisBC then distributes to its customers in Prince George, Quesnel, Williams Lake, the lower Fraser Valley, and Greater Vancouver among other areas.

FortisBC has approximately one million gas customers and it is estimated that about 70% of the customers have the potential to lose gas supply.

According to the company, no FortisBC infrastructure has been damaged as a result of the incident, however, customers are being asked to restrict the use of gas until more is known.

Enbridge continues to investigate the cause of the explosion.
