Flooding in Grand Forks has resulted in hazard notices being delivered to 39 homes.
The rising water level in the Kettle River watershed has increased sloughing, erosion and bank instability in several locations.
More hazard notices could still be delivered today as well.
Anyone near a riverbank who’s concerned about slope stability should prepare to self-evacuate if they see evidence of ground deterioration around their home.
Around 20 two-person teams will begin to assess homes in evacuation order areas, rating structures by a green, yellow and red placard system.
The assessments, which will quickly determine the likely level of damage, will begin shortly after the river peaks.
It’s hoped to minimize the delay between response to the emergency and re-entry of residents to their home following floods.
