Ashleigh Preston of Squamish says it’s been “a bit of a roller-coaster ride” since she found out she was $1 million richer, and that’s certainly understandable.
After purchasing a Lotto Max ticket for the Oct. 30 draw on a whim at a local Walmart, her mom called her on Halloween to tell her that the winning ticket had been bought in Squamish.
She said she started screaming and it actually sent her family into a bit of a panic.
“My husband was outside so didn’t know what had happened,” she explained, “and because I was in the kitchen, my kids thought I had cut my finger off!”
That panic quickly turned into a family celebration and Preston knew she had to call her mom back with the good news.
“All my mom could say was ‘oh my God,’” Preston said.
She plans on putting a large chunk of the winnings into savings, but she has already put an order in for a new Ford Explorer, a vehicle she’s always dreamed about owning.
The family also now has plans to visit the Caribbean once it’s safe enough to travel.
