Pair of youths among 3 killed in crash between Terrace and Kitimat

Communities in northwest British Columbia are reeling after a fatal crash late last week that claimed the lives of three people, including two youths.

Emergency crews were called out to the scene on Hwy 37, near Onion Lake between Terrace and Kitimat, around 9:15 am on Friday.

An initial investigation found that a passenger vehicle heading northbound crossed the centre line and struck a southbound commercial vehicle.

All three occupants of the passenger vehicle, which included those two youths, were unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene.

“Our thoughts are with the family, friends and school community affected by this incident,” said Staff Sgt. Graham Morgan. “It is a great loss for our northwest BC communities.”

The highway was closed for several hours while the RCMP traffic reconstructionist attended the scene.

The Kitimat RCMP and BC Coroners Service continue to investigate the fatal crash.

No names are being released at this time.
