Sick dog found tied to railing in Prince George will soon be up for adoption

Rolo, a nine-year-old pit bull terrier, has been through a lot.

The dog was found tied to a railing in front of a building in Prince George with a heartbreaking note attached to his collar asking for someone to take care of him.

Once he was discovered, the good Samaritan brought him into the BC SPCA for care and he was immediately rushed to an emergency veterinarian.

“Poor Rolo has a lot going on health wise. The vet examined the large, protruding mass on his leg and Rolo was sedated for a biopsy,” said Kristen Sumner, manager of the BC SPCA’s north Cariboo District animal centre.

“As he was examining his teeth, three fell out and it was determined that Rolo had ringworm on his face and legs. He was also underweight.”

Fortunately, the mass on the dog’s leg was benign and he’s scheduled for surgery to remove it.

Rolo will also undergo dental work and has been put on a refeeding plan, and has been treated for ringworm.

Once he recovers from surgery, Rolo will be made available for adoption.

“Rolo has been through so much, but he continues to find joy every day,” added Sumner.

“He is always so excited when the BC SPCA staff greet him in the morning and give him his breakfast. When he goes out for walks this nine-year-old dog has the energy and enthusiasm of a puppy.”

Sumner added that even though Rolo’s treatments are intense, he is calm and gentle and allows BC SPCA staff to bathe him, treat him and medicate him.

“His big eyes win you over, and he leans into affection with all of his body weight,” she said.
