Vancouver's Sunset Beach is well known as the epicenter of B.C.'s 4/20 celebrations and this year some high school students won’t even have to skip school to attend.
North Vancouver School District (NVSD) has accidentally scheduled a Professional Development (Pro-D) day on 4/20, which means students will have the day off.
The school district sent out a letter to parents this week insisting the scheduling is entirely coincidental and unintended, but that it’s also too late to reschedule.
"As you are aware, your child’s school has a scheduled professional day on Friday, April 20th. Unfortunately, this coincides with “420” observances where cannabis use and culture is celebrated at events across the Lower Mainland,” reads the letter.
“This coincidence was not intended to promote student attendance at these events. The North Vancouver School District (NVSD) does not condone or support the use of cannabis.”

In total, five high schools in the North Van district have 4/20 off, however Brad Baker, the district principal, is confident students will make the right choice.
"The NVSD is fortunate to have exceptional students who are excellent role models for their school communities."
