UPDATE: Victim of targeted shooting outside BC mall was a corrections officer, police say

(UPDATE: May 3 @ 6:30 am): The man killed in the parking lot of Scottsdale Centre mall in Delta on Saturday has been identified as a BC Corrections officer.

Bikramdeep Randhawa, from Surrey, was 29, Delta Police said.

“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends, as they now start to deal with their loss,” said Insp. Guy Leeson, head of Investigative Services at Delta Police.

The incident is now being considered a targeted killing, police added.

But the motive – including whether it was related to Randhawa's job – has not yet been established.

“We’re looking at all possible aspects as to why this crime was committed,” said Insp. Leeson.

“We will examine every potential motive thoroughly. Whether it was a case of mistaken identity, a matter related to his personal life or if there is a possibility the shooting was related to the victim’s occupation.”

He added: “We’re asking anyone who knew Mr. Randhawa, or who could have information related to why he was targeted in this manner, to please contact police at 604-946-4411, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477."

Police also confirmed that a suspect vehicle involved in the incident was discovered burned in Burnaby on Saturday.

No arrests have been made in relation to the shooting and police are not releasing any information about the possible suspects.

Delta Police said officers have been in communication with BC Corrections and other law enforcement partners about possible links to other incidents in Metro Vancouver, but at this point police are not able to determine whether this shooting can be linked to the gang conflict.

(Original story: May 2 @ 12:30 pm): One person is dead following a shooting in the parking lot of Scottsdale Centre mall in Delta.

The shooting, which police believe was targeted, happened shortly before 5 pm and the aftermath was caught on video.

Footage shows just how brazen the attack was and how the presumed shooter, someone dressed in black carrying what appears to be a handgun, fled the scene through the parking lot.

A newer-model Mazda SUV then pulls up and the suspect gets into the backseat on the passenger side before the vehicle speeds away.

It’s believed to be the same vehicle that was found on fire in Burnaby a short time later, but police haven’t officially linked the two incidents yet.

"Police are aware of speculation regarding whether a vehicle involved in another incident in Metro Vancouver may be linked to this incident,” said a statement from the Delta Police.

“However, that is not something that we can comment on at this time.”

Paramedics unsuccessfully tried to resuscitate the victim at the scene, which was also caught on video and shared to social media.

We have not included that footage in this story due to its sensitive nature.

“This shooting took place in a very public manner, and we are very much aware of the possible risk to innocent bystanders,” says Insp. Guy Leeson.

“Fortunately it doesn’t appear there was anyone else injured during this incident, but we ask those who might have any information to contact police.”

The investigation into this homicide is ongoing and police aren't identifying the victim at this time.
