When Colton Burwash first scanned his ticket from the June 15 Lotto Max draw on his BCLC app, he thought his phone was glitching.
Once he realized his phone was fine and he had won a $1 million Maxmillions prize, the young Grand Forks resident could barely contain himself.
“It was a blur,” the Grand Forks resident said. “I was getting ready for work…and thought why not check my ticket. I freaked out and thought I was going crazy.”
The first person that Burwash told about his big win was his roommate, then he called his family.
To celebrate, he treated his roommate and family to dinner.
“Everyone thought I was joking around,” he explained. “The first few days after finding out, I felt like I would wake up and it was going to be some sort of dream.”
Burwash plans to take a little extra vacation time this summer, but he’s already thinking about how this major prize will affect his future.
He plans on investing a lot of his prize so he can look forward to an early retirement.
“I think this is life changing,” he said. “To me this is forever a huge change.”
Burwash bought his winning ticket at the Christina Lake Canco.
