Krista Paine is taking over as president of the 340-member Central branch of the Canadian Home Builders' Association at a turbulent time.
Kelowna has a housing crisis.
There's a shortage of housing and what there is is unaffordable for many.
There's a labour and trades shortage, land and construction material costs have skyrocketed, the building code has changed and there's more red table and development cost charges than ever.

"Our industry faces pressure from all directions and the need for housing has never been greater," admits Paine, president of Ian Paine Construction.
"I am dedicated to serving our mission and advocating for our industry. I am committed to strengthening our industry, increasing our trades worker capacity and building a brighter future for housing throughout the Central Okanagan."
Kelowna's recent Housing Needs Assessment states that new home construction has to more than double over the next eight years to keep up with the demand of natural population growth, people moving here for the lifestyle and people immigrating here for jobs.
Residential construction is one of the Central Okanagan's biggest economic drivers with 16,000 workers and more than $2 billion in economic impact annually.
Only the high tech and tourism industries have similarly huge impact.
Paine is a registered interior designer, certified Red Seal carpenter and project manager.
She bought the construction company her dad, Ian Paine, founding in 1973 10 years ago so he could retire to Costa Rica.

The company and Krista Paine have won numerous awards, including 'renovator of the year' at the Canadian Home Builders' Association's national competition in 2020.
Krista is also a member of the Interior Designers of Canada advocacy committee, the BC Renovator Council and an instructor at the Centre for Arts and Technology in Kelowna.
