The construction industry has a loud voice that needs to be heard, says Cassidy DeVeer

On this episode of Rick and Friends, we hear from Cassidy DeVeer, the owner and operator of 3rd Generation Homes, a custom home building company in Kelowna.

She shares deeper insights into her current lifestyle and her new role as the president of the Canadian Home Builders Association of British Columbia.

Maddison questions how DeVeer coordinates her busy schedule and remains organized with all the additional tasks she's taking on.

In her new position, she advocates for policies that push forward more affordable homes in BC as well as new houses being built.

She explains how the housing stock supply has not kept up with the growth of the population and that the continuous demand for housing poses a problem.

“The construction industry has a loud voice that needs to be heard,” says DeVeer.

In her position, she acknowledges that she can't please everyone, but finding a middle ground is the best strategy.

DeVeer elaborates on the attractiveness of Kelowna, but how the soaring house prices are turning people away.

She emphasizes that as growth accelerates, changes need to happen within Kelowna to keep up.

The two briefly touch upon some emerging building trends, such as making homes more functional by having wider hallways and curbless showers to cater for those with limited ability.

Catch this full episode to hear more about what DeVeer has lined up for housing in BC and some current issues that need to be addressed.
