UPDATE: Coquihalla reopens, up to 30 cm of snow still expected

(UPDATE: 1:55 p.m.) - The Coquihalla Highway is once again open northbound after an earlier vehicle incident.

While the road is open, driving conditions are expected to deteriorate into the evening as 20-30 centimetres of heavy snow is expected by Thursday morning.

See the original story below for all the information on Environment Canada's current snowfall warning for the mountain pass.

(UPDATE: 11:15 a.m.) - The Coquihalla Highway is now closed northbound at Comstock Road due to a vehicle incident.

A poster on the Coquihalla Road Reports Facebook group said two semis got tangled up and "it will be a long while" before the road opens again.

DriveBC will provide the next update at 12:15 p.m. and NowMedia will update this story when more information becomes available.

(Original story: 11 a.m.) - The Coquihalla received quite the dump of snow on Tuesday and there’s still more to come.

Environment Canada has issued another snowfall warning for the mountain pass between Hope and Merritt.

It calls for 20 to 30 centimetres of snow by Thursday morning, creating poor driving conditions for the highway.

Although it won’t pick up until later, it’s expected to fall heavily into the evening and overnight.

“A moist and unsettled airmass will maintain a few flurries over the Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt today,” reads the weather alert.

“Snow will then intensify late this afternoon as the next storm system moves onshore. Heavy snow will continue tonight and is expected to ease Thursday.”

As it often is, visibility could also be an issue on the Coquihalla and drivers are urged to drive to the conditions.

Weather in the mountains can change suddenly and drivers are also encouraged to prepare themselves by checking DriveBC before their trip.
