(UPDATE: Aug. 13 @ 10:05 am): The RCMP has confirmed that a person died in a crash on Hwy 1 earlier this morning.
A semi-tractor trailer unit and a passenger vehicle collided west of Revelstoke at about 4:40 am.
The passenger vehicle became “engulfed in flames” after the crash, police said, while the truck rolled over.
“Sadly, the driver of the passenger vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency paramedics,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.
“One of our priorities at this time is to establish an identity for the deceased and properly notifying that person’s family.”
Hwy 1 remains closed in both directions so a collision reconstructionist from the RCMP Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services can fully examine the crash scene.
The BC Coroners Service has been notified and has launched an independent investigation into the individual’s sudden death.
If you witnessed this crash and have not yet spoken to police, or you have dash camera footage that may aid in our investigation, you are asked to call the Revelstoke RCMP at 250-837-5255.
