Kelowna Apple Marathon returns today after 5-year hiatus

After the successful return of the Apple Triathlon in August, the Apple Marathon is set to make its return to the streets of Kelowna today.

For organizers, the rebirth of the Apple Race Series is years in the making after plenty of uncertainty about whether they’d come back after being cancelled due to COVID-19 in 2020.

“We weren't sure whether or not the event would ever come back after all of the COVID cancellations,” race director Susie Ernsting told KelownaNow in August.

“The Okanagan attracts athletes from across the country and North America, so having a marquee marathon event is really important for the community.”

Both the Apple Marathon and half marathon are certified courses, meaning runners can compete in Kelowna to qualify for the Boston Marathon.

The City of Kelowna is advising residents of a few road closures and parking restrictions that will be in place to accommodate the event.

You can also expect the lakefront promenade between City Park and Waterfront Park to be in use for the Apple Marathon between 7 am and 12:30 pm.
