BC junior football player reportedly drowns in Shuswap Lake

Another Canadian Junior Football League player has died following an apparent drowning incident this week.

Nathan Falito, a 22-year-old from Edmonton, reportedly drowned on Thursday while at the Shuswap Lake.

Friends, family, and the West Shore Rebels Football Team confirmed the death on Saturday, mentioning how devastated they were over the loss.

"Our Rebels family is deeply saddened and heartbroken by the loss of Nathan Falito," wrote the Rebels. "Nathan was an outgoing, dynamic, and bright young man taken far too soon. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family, friends, and teammates. Rest easy Nathan."

Falito becomes the second former CJFL player to drown this month after 24-year-old Kory Nagata died while trying to retrieve a football in the Fraser River. The wide receiver and kick returner just finished his junior football career after suiting up for the Rebels during the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

NowMedia is looking to gather more information from RCMP and Shuswap Search and Rescue.
