A 23-year-old man from Salmon Arm has been charged with child pornography offences following a two-year police investigation.
The BC Integrated Child Exploitation Unit (BC ICE) started investigating Brecken Peters back in May 2019.
In partnership with Salmon Arm RCMP, BC ICE said it spent more than two years analyzing digital evidence and assessing “multiple reports.”
Due to the “complexity of the case,” BC ICE said, the investigation did not conclude until June 2021.
The probe’s results were forwarded to the BC Prosecution Service and, on June 17, Peters was charged with:
One count of possessing child pornography
Two counts of distributing child pornography
He was arrested without incident on June 25, BC ICE said.
The accused was then released – with conditions – and is scheduled to appear at Salmon Arm Provincial Court on Sept. 14.
“If anyone has any information regarding this or any other case involving online Child Sexual Exploitation, we encourage them to contact the police of their jurisdiction to report their concerns,” said Cpl. Sharen Leung of BC ICE.
