Ever wonder why you like some designs but can’t figure out how to get the same look. Well if you find yourself loving these kitchen designs, I have come up with a few tips on how to get the look!
Like fashion, interior design trends go from one end of the spectrum to the other. A few years ago everything was light and airy, now its big and bold. An easy way to change your look and be on trend is with oversized pendants. Whether they are matte black, concrete, wicker or white - bigger is better!
An extra added touch, just to let everyone know you’re up with latest trends is the swing arm sconce; if you can get them over floating shelves, bonus!
You can do a painted island and wood perimeter, white mixed with grey, or all three (wood accents, white perimeter, and painted island) - mixing your material will get you the lived in, laid back- yet sophisticated coastal look that everyone is still swooning after!
Another great way to mix materials is with the hardware. Gone are the days of matchy-matchy metals. Black goes with brass, brass goes with brushed chrome- just make sure you repeat the elements 3 times so it looks intentional and not an ‘oops!’.
Adding in a vintage rug not only adds in the element of warmth and texture, but it also adds in character and some amazing colors. Yes, there are some great replicas off sites like Wayfair and places like HomeSense but nothing beats an original-especially if it has an interesting story of how you found it!
The reason these kitchens appeal to so many is because when items are implemented correctly you can have everything from California coastal to eclectic modern.
If you have a troublesome room, send a photo and your design dilemma to info@courtneyungaro.com and once a month I’ll choose one lucky reader to feature and give design advice!
