Why do you use Instagram?

I love connecting with like minded people. It’s been a great tool for meeting people in Kelowna when I first moved here last year.

I love taking creative high quality photos and providing informative advice on all things fitness, nutrition and lifestyle.

What happens when we miss a workout⁉️ Let's face it, once in awhile life gets in the way and we just can't make it to the gym. _ But most of us beat 😢ourselves up and think all our hard work is gone when we have to skip a day here and there from the gym _ STOP 🛑 Nothing at all will happen if you have to skip the gym today. It's important to eliminate this all or nothing mentality because it's not doing anything for us _ Missing one workout is NOT going to make you fat, just like completing one workout is not going to make you shredded. Consistency is key 🔑 here. I’ve barely worked out in weeks (not something I’d recommend) but I’ve been maintaining my results by controlling my nutrition. HOW TO BURN 🔥 FAT _ There's still a bunch of myths and misconceptions when it comes to fat loss // let’s take some time today to discuss _ The following are some DONT'S when it comes to fat loss 🚫 Hours of cardio • Endless hours of cardio can actually have inverse effects • Too much cardio leads to a slower metabolism, less lean body mass, which leads to a "skinny-fat" look. 🚫 Restricting yourself • It's been shown that dietary restraint is associated with those who can lose weight, but flexible dietary restraint is associated with those who lose weight, KEEP IT OFF 🚫 Crash Dieting • Take 9 and multiply it by your bodyweight. If you are consuming this amount of calories, you NEED to stop crash dieting and eat more. Period. _ The following should be implemented if you are wanting to burn fat and KEEP IT OFF ✔️ Strength training • Resistance training is what allows you to maintain muscle while losing fat. It is also what allows you to build muscle. ✔️ Be flexible • If you crave a cookie, have a cookie. If you want a donut, have a donut. Just ensure everything you consume is within your caloric requirements. ✔️ Maintain a caloric deficit • Ensure you are slowly eating less over time. Let's talk about why eating MORE food is a good thing. ___ Typically people under eat for TOO long, as an attempt to lose weight. They are pretty successful at first. But over time, the fat loss starts to slow down and eventually stops. This is your body telling you "I am done losing weight." If you have been dieting for a long time and your calories are dangerously low, you need to listen to your body. ___ Your metabolic rate NEEDS to be restored, as well as your hormones before we can activate the next fat loss stage. You can't just be in a caloric deficit forever until you reach your goals. Your body will fight you. ___ So how do we restore your hormones and metabolic rate? By simply eating more food consistently over a period of time (aka reverse dieting). It's really that simple. ___ Think of your metabolism as a car. If you have little fuel (calories), you aren't going to get very far (lose weight). You'll get somewhere, but definitely not as far as you may like. If you have a full tank (more calories), you are definitely going to get a lot further (lose weight) with more fuel. Until you run out of gas and have to fill back up (reverse diet). Once you fill back up, only then can you keep going. ___ So if you have been dieting for a long period of time, aren't losing weight and don't have a lot of food... Start consistently eating more now. Why do you follow KelownaNow?

I love being kept up to date with what is going on in the community. It also allows me the opportunity to connect with other locals, small businesses and artists.

it’s ok to be lost // how else are you going to find your way in this game of life ___ Packing up and moving to Kelowna was a lot harder than I anticipated. I was definitely feeling lost and often questioned if the move was well, the right move (pun intended. ___ But over the past 5 months, I have never been so clear and focused. I definitely now have appreciation for the value of being lost — I wouldn’t feel as determined as I’ve been w/o it ___ Whatever you are going through, always remember that something good will come from it. How do you decide on your location for shoots?

I love shooting at popular well known places in the Okanagan. It’s a lot of fun to create a different perceptive and outlook from popular locations.

Biggest Instagram moment?

I would say my most recent Pizza In The Street Post. I received lots of great feedback and people asking me where Studio Pizza was located. It was a fun creative way to support a local business.

I’ve been eating pizza 🍕 EVERYDAY and I haven’t gained weight _ Couple of things to quickly note ↛ Firstly, my weight has fluctuated .5-1lbs up and down, which is completely NORMAL! Weight loss, weight gain and even weight maintenance is not linear ↛ Secondly, it’s ok to consume pizza or maybe even a donut or a cookie (whatever your go to is) when you control your calories, hit fiber, fruit and veggie targets _ Currently I am maintaining weight at 125lbs consuming 2400-2700 calories a day. Most macro calculations from reputable coaches and sources would suggest that maintenance calories for someone my size and current lifestyle is around 1800-2000. So how the heck can I eat so much more and still maintain weight? By NOT dieting all year long year after year and eating MORE food consistently over time _ A lot of people neglect to care for their metabolism 🤕, which can hurt them later on with their fat loss goals. Understanding how your metabolism works and taking are of it is the best way to ensure you are successful with your body composition goals. Here are some things to keep in mind _ ✔️ Your metabolism can develop negative adaptations when it is stuck in a caloric deficit over a significant period of time. But never is your metabolism permanently damaged. You are not doomed with a slow metabolism forever. Some cases may take longer than others, depending on the time spent in a caloric deficit. _ ✔️ Your metabolic function can only be corrected by consuming more calories. This is where implementing a Reverse Diet or Recovery Diet are optimal strategies to minimize fat regain when correcting your metabolism _ I’m not saying you need to eat this much food. But if you are strategic about it, you can ditch the diet, quit starving yourself and eat a moderate amount of food. This will leave you feeling satisfied & unrestricted _ Hope this helps! Hitting your macros is great 👍🏻 , achieving your ideal body composition is nice 👍🏻 and hitting a new squat PR is amazing _ But if you aren't mentally fit... what's the point? It will never feel like enough and we are often TOO hard on ourselves and forget to acknowledge that we are actually doing a good job. _ Our mental health is the most important thing we can work on; however, it is often neglected. This is the biggest thing I have been working on post competition prep. _ TBH I wish I made this a priority a lot sooner. I can now catch myself when I am thinking something negative about myself and turn it around into a positive. Versus thinking negative thoughts throughout the day and just going with the flow and wondering why I'm in a bad mood at the end of the day? _ Don't neglect your mental health! If you are rolling your eyes 👀 and saying "yea yea yea, that's common sense," please remember that common sense isn't always common practice! It's so important and actually plays a big role in the sustainability of your body composition goals as well. #MentallyElite #motivationmonday
