Fly Kelowna-Toronto for as little as $45 on Lynx Air

You'll have to be strategic to do it, but next month you could fly from Kelowna to Toronto for as little as $45 on ultra-low-cost Lynx Air.

Lynx announced its spring and summer schedule this week and Kelowna-Toronto is a new addition.

However, to get that kick-ass introductory deal there are a few things you should know.

The $45 fare, all taxes and fees included, is one-way only, Kelowna-Toronto, so to return to Kelowna you'll have to buy another flight.

The $45 sale runs only from now until midnight Saturday and you have to book online at FlyLynx.com using the promotional code: FLYSUMMER.

The $45 is a special to celebrate the new service and represents a 50% savings and may not be available on all flights.

The $45 is essentially only for your bum in the seat and for you to stuff whatever you can under the seat in front of you.

If you want to check luggage, put a carry-on suitcase in the overhead bin, select your seat or have priority boarding you'll pay more -- $84, $84, $21 and $10.50, respectively.

As well, while the flight is touted as a new service between Kelowna and Toronto, the flight is direct, not non-stop.

What that means is the flight departs Kelowna at 11 am and heads for Calgary where it will touch down for 45 minutes for passengers to get on and off.

If you're headed to Toronto, you stay in your seat and then continue on to Toronto to arrive at 8:21 pm local time (remember, Toronto is a three-hour-ahead time difference from Kelowna).

Return flights leave Toronto at 6:45 am and arrive in Kelowna at 10:25 am, again with that 45 minute stop in Calgary and taking into account the three hour time difference.

This set up means Lynx has non-stop flights between Kelowna and Calgary for as little as $35 one-way.

Lynx is already flying between Kelowna and Calgary and will add on the Toronto option April 13.

"April is our one-year anniversary of having Lynx operating at YLW and providing affordable options for Okanagan residents," said Kelowna International Airport director Sam Samaddar.

"I am happy to see Lynx expand and offer routes to popular destinations, such as Toronto."

For the first two week, the service will be three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays with regularly priced one-ways at around $85.

In May, that will be bumped up to four times weekly with the addition of Sunday flights.

By June, fares will increase to $119 to $185 one-way, all taxes and fees included.

Lynx's new spring-summer schedule has 26 routes on it, including Calgary to Fredericton, Hamilton, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Montreal, Phoenix, Vancouver, Victoria and Winnipeg; Vancouver to Winnipeg; Montreal to St. John's; and Toronto to Edmonton, Fredericton, Halifax, Orlando, St. John's, Vancouver, Winnipeg

This expanded service out of Kelowna by Lynx comes after the airline decided to scrap its twice-a-week flights between Kelowna and Vancouver earlier this year.

Lynx found there was too much competition on the popular route with Air Canada, WestJet, Central Mountain Air, Air North and Flair all doing it and Air Canada and WestJet offering multiple flights daily.

On the Kelowna-Toronto route, Lynx will have competition from Air Canada and Swoop, which each have daily flights, and Flair's twice-a-week service.

To compare prices, Air Canada's Kelowna-Toronto one-ways are prices as little ast $179 in April and $268 in June and include a free carry-on suitcase in the overhead bin.

Swoop is an ultra-low-cost airline like Lynx.

In April, Swoop one-ways to Toronto can be had for as little as $87 and in June $117.
