Last month, Canada West announced that first-term team sports would not be played this fall.
It was a crushing blow for so many athletes, but not all.
It’s been decided that golf lends itself to physically distancing enough that the Canada West golf championships can go ahead as planned this fall.
For the second-straight season, the tournament will be hosted by UBC Okanagan at the Okanagan Golf Club’s Bear Courch (OGC).
“The CW COVID-19 Task Force, after much hard work, was able to see how a championship could be run safely, and I'm pleased that the Canada West members saw fit to crown champions in the sport of golf in 2020,” said Tom Huiscan, UBCO’s athletic director.
"After hosting an outstanding inaugural championship last fall at the Okanagan Golf Club, I look forward to working with the same esteemed group again to host a second-consecutive great event for the Conference.”
Both the men’s and women’s golf teams at UBCO had strong performances at last year’s Canada West golf championship, but they’ll be looking to crack the podium this time around.
The Canada West golf championship will take place Oct. 2-4.
