A member of the public made a surprising discovery when they tried to assist an overdosing man last week.
They found the unresponsive man in the 4500 block of 27th Street around 5:30 am on Thursday, Feb. 2.
“When the bystander began to administer first aid, they found what appeared to be a firearm strapped to the man's body underneath his coat,” police explained.
The RCMP was called and officers immediately responded to the scene. They found and seized a .22-calibre firearm and loaded magazine on the overdosing man.
The officers administered a dose of nasal naloxone to the 23-year-old Vernon man, who regained consciousness and was transported to hospital.
He has since been released from custody and medical care, but faces a number of potential firearms-related charges.
Police continue to investigate the incident.
