(UPDATE: July 19 @ 10:50 a.m.) - Vernon RCMP have identified a pair of suspects who were involved in the thefts of meat and other goods from a family farm in Vernon.

The pair reportedly abused the farm's honour system several times, making off with hundreds of dollars worth of goods.

"During the course of an unrelated investigation, our officers were able to identify a 36-year-old Vernon woman and a 44-year-old man Vernon man and linked them to the thefts of meat," said Cpl. Yannick Lescarbeau.

Several counts of thefts will be recommended against both individuals.

(Original story: July 13 @ 12:30 p.m.) - Owners of a family farm in Vernon are upset after numerous thefts that have abused their ‘honour system fridge.’

On June 20, police were made aware that an alleged theft took place from the farm on Redwing Road.

The suspected thief allegedly helped himself to a dozen eggs and left without putting any payment into the jar.

Around three days later, the same man returned and reportedly took more than $100 of organic meat from the same fridge.

“Since the first report made to police, the same male has returned to the property four additional times and collected various items from the fridge including meat and eggs, without leaving any sort of payment behind,” said Cst. Kelly Brett.

“To a small local farm, thefts like this can be devastating and may jeopardize the way the farm continues to conduct business.”

An additional suspect has now been identified in one of the thefts from the farm, but police are seeking further assistance in identifying the male seen in surveillance footage.

Brett says the RCMP is “confident with the media and public’s assistance we will be able to identify the male seen in the surveillance video.”
