Mounties in the North Okanagan are investigating what they believe to be a targeted shooting that happened over the morning.
In the early hours of Saturday morning, officers responded to multiple reports of gunfire on 34th Street.
When officers arrived at the residential building, they confirmed that “several” rounds had been shot inside one of the units, which was occupied at the time. No injuries were reported, however.
Witnesses said they saw a white SUV flee the area at the time of the shooting and officers confirmed it was a 2008-2012 Ford Escape.
At about 6:20 am, police were notified of a vehicle fire in Coldstream.
A release says the vehicle was completely destroyed and appeared to be similar to the one involved in the shooting.
At this time, investigators believe the two incidents are related and the shooting was targeted.
“These types of reckless acts of violence jeopardize the safety of our entire community and it’s incredibly fortunate that no one was injured,” says a RCMP spokesperson.
Investigators ask anyone with information about the shooting or the vehicle fire to call the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP at (250) 545-7171 and refer to file 2023-16532.
