Officers arrived on scene and found a woman lying on the sidewalk and suffering from non-life threatening injuries from the assault.

She was transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services paramedics. The suspect had already fled the scene.

Officers learned that the victim, a restaurant staff member, had asked two men who were arguing outside the front doors of the restaurant to leave the area.

One of the men then attacked the victim, reportedly punching her several times.

The suspect then threw the victim to the ground before fleeing the scene.
At about 8 am this morning, officers located and arrested the suspect in the 1000-block of View Street.

He was transported to cells at VicPD and remains in custody.

Officers are asking that anyone with surveillance footage in the area of the assault, or information about the incident, to please contact VicPD at (250) 995-7654, extension 1.

To report what you know anonymously, please call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
