How does an eleven-year-old become a star volunteer for Canadian Blood Services? The answer came today as Maddux Elson told his story to kick off the Sirens for Life drive in Kelowna.
Young Elson wouldn't be around today if his grandparents hadn't had a first date at a blood donor clinic.
He wouldn't be here if his father hadn't been able to access donated blood when he needed it, and he wouldn't be here if it hadn't been there for him when he was hospitalized with kidney problems.
That's why he has become a blood champion and a tireless supporter of the people who manage the blood supply in Canada. The youngster has organized eight blood drives in Kelowna and has inspired more than 200 people to donate. At the kick-off for this year's Sirens for Life campaign, Maddux took to the podium to offer his family story and inspire others to get involved.
If you go into the Canadian Blood Services clinic over the next several weeks, you're likely to see more police officers, firefighters and other emergency service workers rolling up their sleeves and doing their part for our blood supply. Canadian Blood Services is encouraging you to join them.
