Those Bluetooth phone calls in the car mean you can have two hands on the wheel while driving. It's a lot safer than holding a smartphone in your hand. Or is it? Lawyer Paul Hergott says the evidence is clear.
"Hand-held, hands-free, no difference," said Hergott. In an interview at KelownaNow he said hands-free phone calls are every bit as dangerous. Hergott draws that conclusion in part from a 2009 BC Government discussion paper that also recommended against banning one and not the other. "Because if you ban one you are going to lead people into a false sense of security with the hands-free version," said Hergott.
He feels so strongly about the issue, he started an online petition on the subject. He said he made little headway changing minds on the subject with the last provincial government, but he won't give up.
