VIDEO: Help for struggling parents at UBCO

You don't need an appointment, and you don't need to spend a dime. UBCO's School of Social Work has Masters of Social Work students supervised by experienced clinicians ready to spend some time with you. The program is designed to help parents who have concerns about the mental health of their children.

It's a pilot project that runs Thursday afternoons for the next few weeks. "Parents today are faced with a variety of complex challenges," said Hilla Schlomi who heads-up the clinic. "We want parents to feel safe to say 'I'm worried about my child's mental health'."

Excessive screen time, depression and anxiety are key issues facing today's parents. "This is a unique offering in the Okanagan," said Schlomi, "and one that we hope will fill a need in our community."

Schlomi hopes the program might be extended once the pilot project phase is complete.
