VIDEO: Hungry Games crazier than ever

The second annual Hungry Games took place in Kelowna today at Central Sports Club. The event brings together servers from ten different restaurants. The task is to navigate a bottle on a tray through a challenging obstacle course.

Organizer Kaitlyn Dickie said it's a great way for the industry to come together. "It's a super exciting event that brings servers together to compete for a good cause," said Dickie.

The Hungry Games are part of a four-year initiative called The Industry Project. During that time $40,000 has been raised for organizations including The Foundry, the food bank, and JoeAnna's House.

"We've got to show a lot of respect for our competitors, but at the same time, we're hungry to win," said one racer. "Slow and steady wins the race," observed another. The atmosphere was loud and fun, with ridiculous outfits adding to the atmosphere. "We're really excited to amp it up," said one young male competitor while sporting a pink mesh shirt.

For a donation, competitors can pay to force their opponents to take on disadvantages such as wearing diving fins or googles with a blocked-out lens, or a sombrero. "You can sabotage other teams," said Dickey, "and 100% of the profits go to the cause that we decide." The difficulty level of the courses increases as the teams play their way down to the final.
