VIDEO: Parents and kids flock back to the playgrounds

After months of staying away, parents and kids were making their way back to the playgrounds today. The reopening by municipal governments took effect today, and families took advantage.

People are still urged to use caution, however. A news release issued by the Central Okanagan Regional District asked people to wash their hands before using the playground equipment, to keep physical distance, avoid gatherings and stay away if you're not feeling well.

"It makes me a little bit nervous," said one parent, "we're back to normal when maybe we shouldn't be rushing back to normal so soon."

Another expressed similar concerns even as her child enjoyed Mission Creek Regional Park, "How do you keep the distance when you have little kids?" she asked, "I don't know."

"It feels awesome," said a smiling mother, pushing her toddler on the swings. "Look how well behaved they are," said her friend who was also there with a child.

"We brought wipes with us," said a father, enjoying the park with his son. "We'll wipe it down before and wipe it down after," he added. "If everyone does that we'll be good."

Playgrounds were closed in mid-March due to COVID-19. Waterparks and indoor recreation facilities remain closed.
