VIDEO: West Kelowna Actress writes, produces and stars in her own series

West Kelowna's Cassandra Ebner has performed in shows like Game of Thrones, and movies like The Flash, but this time she's the star. She also conceived, wrote and produced it.

Now the award-winning, short-form series, LifeXP can be seen on Youtube and Vimeo. Ebner stopped by at KelownaNow to tell us all about it.

She's worked as an actress and a stunt-double all over the world, but Cassandra Ebner had a vision. "I wanted to make my own series," she said. And she did.

LifeXP is about a young woman with no experience at video games who suddenly finds herself thrust into adventures in a virtual reality world while drama builds around her in the real world at the same time. It came out on November 5. The first three or four episodes are out and a new one will be released weekly. Fans also have the option of buying the full series on Netflix with added features.

"The video games that she plays, she ends up making friends and friendships and going on all these adventures," said Ebner, about the character she plays, "and it starts to affect her real, everyday life."

Rather than depend on landing roles in major production came with guaranteed stardom. "I got to hire myself to be the actor and I didn't have to audition which was really nice. But yeah, I kind of took out the middle man and made my own series," she said with a smile. And people watching the show are smiling too.

"We've gotten awards all over the world. We went to Cannes, France with it," said Ebner. "When you actually get accolades and festival awards and get invited to Cannes, France? You're like okay, it looks good."

LifeXP is comprised of 9 episodes, each five to 12 minutes in length. "It is quite different, but there's actually a lot of content that's starting to go out there like this," she said. "So it's a pretty exciting time for web series."

Growing up in West Kelowna, Ebner got into making Youtube videos. She said that's what got her going in the direction she's gone. So she encourages young people to go ahead and start creating. "That's the thing we tell everyone. We're like 'Yo! You can go do this yourself'. Just use your phone, make a film and keep doing that because that's how you're going to get better," said Ebner.

It's still early days, but the series has been getting a lot of looks now that the episodes have started going up. Season two is already written, but it's not produced yet, so she's wide open to suggestions from viewers."I want to know what could make it better, so I can tweak the script and make sure it's the best it can be."
