The Ladies Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #288 in West Kelowna and the Mission Hill Family Estate Winery is set to host their Bells of Peace sunset ceremony this evening.
The event will see the Ladies Auxiliary ring the bell at the Mission Hill bell tower 100 times to commemorate the 100 years since the end of the First World War. The event is part of the national Royal Canadian Legion’s Bells of Peace initiative to mark the moment 100 years ago when church bells across the land rang out to let Canadians know that an armistice had been signed and the First World War was over.
Bells will begin to ring at 4:19 p.m. when the sun begins to set and will be heard throughout West Kelowna.
Residents young and old are encouraged to come to the bell tower to give thanks and respect to all those who fought for and helped save this country. For residents who are unable to make it, they are just asked to listen for the bells.
