West Kelowna RCMP is continuing to support the BC Coroners Service after an elderly woman suffered fatal injuries as a result of a pedestrian involved collision in West Kelowna.
On Saturday at approximately 11:10 a.m., emergency crews were called to the scene of the collision, which occurred on a laneway at the parking lot of a business complex in the 2300 block of Highway 97.
The pedestrian, who was an 83-year-old West Kelowna woman, sustained severe injuries.
“Tragically she was pronounced deceased by emergency first responders at the scene,” said Corporal Jesse O'Donaghey.
The driver, a 34-year-old West Kelowna man, was emotionally impacted by the incident, remained at the scene and fully cooperated with the investigation.
BC Coroners Service is now leading the investigation. Investigators will rely on witness accounts, nearby video surveillance and the detailed report of the RCMP collision analyst who attended and examined the scene.
Due to the privacy of the deceased, the Coroners Service did not release or confirm an identity. If you witnessed the incident and haven't spoken to the police, you are asked to contact the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880.
