UPDATE: City of West Kelowna rescinds water quality advisory

(UPDATE: April 9 @ 3:40 pm) - The Lakeview-Rose Valley water system is no longer under a water quality advisory (WQA).

The City of West Kelowna, in consultation with Interior Health, rescinded the WQA today.

It was put in place on April 1 due to increased turbidity in the Rose Valley Reservoir.

(Original story: April 2 @ 6:50 am) - A large number of West Kelowna residents are now under a water quality advisory.

The City of West Kelowna, in consultation with Interior Health, issued the water quality advisory for the Lakeview-Rose Valley water system on Thursday night.

It’s due to increasing turbidity in the Rose Valley Reservoir, which can allow bacteria, viruses and microorganisms to attach themselves to the suspended particles in the turbid water, avoiding chlorine disinfection.

With a water quality advisory in place, children, the elderly and those with weakened immunity must use water brought to a rolling boil for one minute or more for things like:

  • Brushing teeth.
  • Drinking.
  • Making baby formula and ice.
  • Preparing food and beverages.
  • Washing fruits and vegetables.
  • Any other consumption.

An alternative is to use an alternative safe water source, like buying bottled water or visiting the bulk filling station at Shannon Lake and Asquith roads.

Residents can use the station for free for the duration of the water quality advisory, as long as they bring clean bottles for filling.
