West Kelowna duplex suffers ‘heavy damage’ in overnight fire

West Kelowna Fire Rescue was called out to a house fire early Wednesday morning.

The 911 calls came in around 2:30 am to report a duplex on Last Road had gone up in flames.

First-arriving crews ensured that all residents were out of the duplex, then conducted an evacuation of the apartment building next door.

“Fire crews worked hard to protect buildings on both sides of the fire, including the apartment,” explained a release issued by West Kelowna fire chief, Jason Brolund.

“The fire building sustained heavy damage. There was a small amount of smoke that was cleared by firefighters in the apartment, where residents have returned (to).”

Fortunately, there were no injuries reported from the fire and affected residents have been offered care from Emergency Support Services (ESS).

The investigation into the fire is ongoing, the WKFR release noted.

The fire department responded with five apparatus and 26 personnel, while RCMP, BC Ambulance, FortisBC, BC Hydro and ESS also attended the scene.
