A list of BC highways currently affected by wildfires

Like many of the fires roaring around the province, British Columbia’s wildfire situation as a whole remains out of control.

With resources stretched thin and Mother Nature not helping the cause, the provincial government declared a state of emergency on Tuesday.

The early wildfire season has forced a number of evacuations throughout BC, as well as plenty of highway closures that are affecting travel.

Here’s a full list of highways and other transportation services that are affected as of Wednesday afternoon:

  • Hwy 1 closed in both directions between Lytton and Hope (Lytton Creek wildfire)
  • Hwy 1 closed in both directions between Lytton and Spences Bridge (Lytton Creek wildfire)
  • Hwy 6 closed in both directions southeast of Cherryville (Winnifred Creek wildfire)
  • Hwy 6 closed in both directions north of Fauquier (Octopus Creek wildfire)
  • Needles Ferry is currently out of service (Octopus Creek wildfire)
  • Hwy 12 closed in both directions just north of Lytton (Lytton Creek wildfire)
  • Hwy 20 currently open but subject to change west of Anahim Lake (Hotnarko Creek wildfire)
  • Hwy 20 open with pilot vehicle south of Anahim Lake (Big Stick Lake wildfire)
  • Hwy 97 currently open but subject to change between Clinton and 100 Mile House (Flat Lake wildfire)
  • Hwy 97A in both directions south of Sicamous (Two Mile Road wildfire)

For all the latest updates on these highways and other potential closures due to wildfires, visit DriveBC.

There are also a number of non-highway roads that are closed due to various fires, which Transportation BC is monitoring and updating on its website.

Given the current circumstances and the potential for sudden closures, this list could evolve by the hour.

On Tuesday, Hwy 5 closed for multiple hours while crews doused a vehicle fire north of Hope, while Hwy 3 closed briefly near Keremeous this morning due to wildfire activity.
